Comparative prognostic value of systolic, diastolic, and pulse pressure

摘要：
Accumulating evidence indicates that systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure are strong predictors of cardiovascular disease after the age of 60. Arterial stiffness and myocardial fibrosis are strong correlates of isolated systolic hypertension and wide pulse pressure and maybe mediated by activation of the rennin angiotensin system. Aggressive treatment of systolic hypertension can provide substantial protection from cardiovascular complications and blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system may provide additional benefits beyond blood pressure lowering.
