Penile prostheses implantation is the last choice with the best result for the treatment of organic impotence. One hundred and fifty-nine impotent patients were treated b implantation of 169 penile prostheses between October 1985 and December 1995. Implanted prostheses employed were AMS600 (46.7%), AMS700cx or AMS700cxm (13%), Hydroflex (10.7%), Ultrex (5.9%), Subrini's soft (5.9%), Mentor alpha-1 (3.6%). Acu-Fom 1 (3.6%), AMS700 (3%), Jonas (2.4%), Dynaflex (2.4%), Finney Flexirod (2.4%) and Duraphase (0.6%). The aetiology of impotence in this series was vascular disease (50.3%), diabetes mellitus (23.9%) and surgery (8.8%). Complications included infection (4.7%), intractable pain (1.8%) and erosion of the urethra (1.8%). Three patients were dissatisfied and strongly requested removal of the prostheses. Four patients were revised the prostheses due to dysfunction of the previous implants. Evaluation of data available for assessment in 141 patients revealed that 92.9% of patients and 90.8% of partners were satified with their sexual life after implantation.
