This is a review of the historical development of the main models of artificial neural networks, each of which reflects definite progress in approaching the principles of biological computations, The review includes single-layer and multilayer perceptrons, Kohonen attribute maps, Hopfield networks, bidirectional associative memory, the Boltzmann machine, adaptive resonance theory, and Fukushima networks.
