Seismoelectric well logging in borehole models

Electromagnetic measurements are performed with borehole models made of the natural rocks or artificial materials in this paper. Experiment results show that Stoneley wave and the other acoustic modes excited by a monopoly source in the borehole models generate seismoelectric waves in the fluid-saturated formations. The electric components of the seismoelectric waves can be received by an electrode in the borehole or on the borehole wall. The amplitude and frequency of the seismoelectric wave are related not only to the seismic wave, but also to the formation properties, such as permeability, conductivity, etc. Comparing with the waveforms of the acoustic logging shows the seismoelectric logging may explore the different properties of the formation. The electroseismic measurements are also performed with these borehole models. The electric Pulse through the electrode in the borehole or on the wall induces Stoneley wave in fluid-saturated borehole model which call be received by a monopole transducer in the same borehole. These measurement methods, seismoelectric logging or electroseismic logging, can directly apply to deep borehole logging in the petrogeology and investigate the formation properties relating to the pore fluid flow.
