Stress-induced superconducting transition in a melt-processed YBa2Cu3O7-δ bulk superconductor

Microstructural, crystallographic and magnetic observations were made for a partially oxygenated melt-processed YBa2Cu3O7-delta bulk superconductor. Microstructural observation showed that an alternating microstructure between orthorhombic and tetragonal YBa2Cu3O7-delta phases was developed by partial oxygenation. XRD analysis and the temperature dependence of AC susceptibility indicated the presence of the superconducting phases which were characterized by different oxygen content and various Tc. It is suggested that the superconducting transitions at 35K and 48K are attributed to the stress induced by phase transformation via oxygenation.
