摘要：

Measurement lies at the heart of all quantitative methods in clinical, epidemiological and health services research. If the measures employed lock the essential features of validity and reliability then the conclusions drawn from empirical findings may mislead. This short article explains and explores the desirable features of measurement instruments used in health-care research.
