Factors affecting the accuracy of transport AC loss measurements on HTSC tapes

A set-up for transport ac loss measurements on HTSC tapes has been established. The loss results are one order of magnitude higher than reported by others. Therefore factors affecting the accuracy of the transport ac loss measurement are investigated. Factors including phase error and voltage loop size cannot explain the difference observed. The common mode signal on the lock-in amplifier is suggested to be a more important factor affecting the accuracy of the measurements.
