The effect of thermomechanical treatment on the microstructure of a Cu-Ni-Be alloy

摘要
A thermomechanical treatment schedule was developed for a Cu-Be-Ni alloy to yield improved combinations of mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. The effects of two different final aging treatments on a Cu-2.2%Ni-0.6%Be alloy were investigated and give rise to high hardness values (740MPa) with conductivities of 60%IACS. Characterization of the precipitates was done by combined TEM, X-Ray EDS and EELS analysis. The two different types of beryllide precipitates have a similar composition but different size and distribution according to the final aging heat treatment.
