The geometric and energy characteristics of quasi-one-dimensional ensembles of metastable carbon clusters C-8 are calculated using the molecular dynamics method with an empirical interatomic potential. The decay activation energy and the lifetime of the metastable state are determined. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
