Proton structure functions and gluon density at HERA

Recent results on the proton structure functions from HERA are presented. The precise measurement of F-2 allows the extraction of the gluon density via NLO QCD fits and an estimation of the longitudinal structure function F-L. In addition results on the charm contribution to F-2 are reported.
