Evaluation of Science and Technology Innovation Ability of Colleges and Universities in China

The current ranking lists regarding with colleges, universities and some institutions is leading to a lot of problems. As a major part of innovation system, colleges and universities always provide science and technology support to economic and social development. This paper gives a preliminary discussion on the colleges and universities innovation abilities and redesigns the index system about science & technology ability of colleges and universities to make a scientific and rational evaluation by constructing a competitive input-output mechanism based on the former researches. Evaluated results show that science and technology innovation ability of colleges and universities have a big difference in different parts of China. Science and technology innovation ability in eastern region is better than central region. And science and technology innovation ability in central region is better than western region.
