This publication of source materials and its preface expand upon the friendship between two expatriate Estonians in America, the Pulitzer Prize winner and caricaturist Edmund Valtman (1914-2005) and the writer Pedro Krusten (1897-1987). While Pedro Krusten is known in Estonia as a writer, less is known about his drawing hobby. In his letters, E. Valtman gives his friend suggestions for the creative work of which caricaturists he should familiarise himself with. Krusten's drawings are humorous yet unpretentious sketches that most probably have no counterparts in reality, for which reason they cannot be considered caricatures. The illustrations have been selected from among Krusten's approximately 400 drawings, which the writer's widow and daughter, who live in Washington, donated to the Museum of Estonian Literature.
