The crisis of German studies in Korea - Is it also a crisis of German-language policies in Korea?

For a few years, we have witnessed crisis of the department of German in Korea, which has a long tradition, but it recently has gone through severe crisis. I find out reasons in two aspects: one, the wrong language policies by Germany, and the other, the impractical curricula of Korean universities. Since the mid 1990s, the language policies by Germany in Korea have taken wrong steps. Hence, the motivation to study German has weakened, and the number of students to apply for the German department of Korea has gone down. It must be emphasized that German businesses in Korea should contribute to activating the German education in Korea, and the nation of Germany must be committed to enhance its language policies. The previous curricula of the German department in Korea was neither practical nor effective. Instead of too pure academic curricula, more practical study must be required. Textbook, curricula and materials in German classes should be improved and also the more various and multipurpose class work must be added to the present curricula.
