Analysis and control of manufacturing systems: A hybrid approach

Hybrid systems combine discrete and continuous behaviors. In this paper, the hybrid nature of the manufacturing system will be investigated. An approach for the analysis and control synthesis for the hybrid systems based on the hybrid automaton model will be presented. The problem which must be solved can be formulated as follows: given a hybrid automaton, which models the system behavior, restrict its region associated with the controllable transition, in a systematic way, so that all the remaining behaviors satisfy certain properties. The application of this approach will be illustrated using a case study. Copyright (C) 2001 IFAC.
