摘要
Galactic winds are a ubiquitous phenomenon in local and high-redshift star-forming galaxies, but they have not been studied in much detail outside of the very local universe. We present preliminary results of a study of massive outflows in a large sample of starburst-dominated ultraluminous infrared galaxies at low to intermediate redshifts (z = 0.1 - 0.5). The technique is absorption-line spectroscopy, and we find winds in the majority of our sample. We also find a correlation of 'mass entrainment efficiency' with star formation rate. Ours is the first systematic, large-scale study of galactic winds in this redshift range.
