Potential Description of α + 208Pb Elastic Scattering

The present work reports the analyses of the experimental alpha + Pb-208 elastic scattering in terms of the non-monotonic (NM) and modified single-folded (MSF) potentials. The analysis using NM potential reveals that the shape of the potential in the central region of the target Pb-208 is not that significant in determining the angular distribution of cross sections at low incident energies and the scattering is dominated by the nuclear potential at the nuclear surface. The MSF potential, without any renormalization, satisfactorily describes the alpha + Pb-208 elastic scattering data for the energies considered here. The number of nucleons making alpha-like clusters is deduced as 180 and the number of unclustered nucleons has been found to be 28.
