Mean values and min-max problems in thermal engineering

摘要：
Definitions of various mean values are reviewed and their meanings are interpreted. It is shown that mean values teamed in elementary mathematics are effectively utilized in many branches of thermal engineering. Basic problems and solutions in thermodynamics and heat transfer are quoted as examples. Similar treatments are given for maximum/minimum problems in thermal engineering.
