摘要
This article focuses on the aspects of cognitive function that are particularly deficient in schizophrenia, their relationship to functional outcome, and the effect of the newer generation antipsychotics on ameliorating cognitive deficits in patients with schizophrenia. A comprehensive discussion of issues and controversies surrounding cognitive function in schizophrenia is beyond the scope of this article. The most established findings that were shown to be crucial for functional outcome, which is the ultimate goal of medical practice, are discussed.
