Facile formation of superhydrophobic aluminum alloy surface and corrosion-resistant behavior

摘要
Superhydrophobic surface with excellent corrosion resistance was prepared on aluminum alloy via boiling water treatment and surface modification with stearic acid. Results suggested that the micro-and nanoscale hierarchical structure along with the hydrophobic chemical composition surface confers the aluminum alloy surface with good superhydrophobicity, and the water contact angle and the water sliding angle can reach 156.6 degrees and 3 degrees, respectively. The corrosion resistance of the superhydrophobic aluminum alloy was first characterized by potentiodynamic polarization, and then the long-term corrosion resistance was investigated by immersing the sample in NaCl solution for 90 days. The surface wettability, morphology, and composition before and after immersion were examined, and results showed that the superhydrophobic aluminum alloy surface possessed good corrosion resistance under the experimental conditions, which is favorable for its practical application as an engineering material in seawater corrosion conditions. Finally, the mechanism of the superhydrophobicity and excellent corrosion resistance is deduced.
