摘要
Thermal Spallation Drilling (TSD) is an alternative rock reduction technology, where a flame jet locally destructs the rock surface. The technology has the potential to feature high rates of penetration, an efficient energy transport and reduced wear rates. In this manuscript, the possible benefits and limitations of the technology are presented, together with the applicable operating range and technical design guidelines. Additionally, a combination of conventional drilling and TSD is shown in a first feasibility study.
