Pb-207/Pb-206 and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology can accurately determine the crystallization age of the granites of the Palaeoproterozoic Rio Itapicuru Greenstone Belt, and allow discussion of a cooling model in which slow rates of ca. 3.4 degrees C/Ma were involved.
