SUPPORT OF DEVELOPMENT OF REGIONAL TOURISM IN SLOVAKIA

The article focuses on the issues of development of regional tourism which forms an integral part of the development of individual regions exhibiting relatively strong economic disparities. Multilateral solution to this issue was based on quantitative analyses of tourism in selected regions of Slovakia, identifying potential opportunities to promote development, prediction of their further development with the acceptance of all the principles and sustainable development of the regions, aimed at creating a competitive tourism product. Based on the synthesis of quantitative analyses performed and globalising of their results a management model supporting the development of regional tourism that integrates not only specific aspects of the regions but also the possible positive and negative aspects directly affecting the complex process of self-development is proposed. Thus the proposed model accepts the economic and environmental, legislative, material and technical factors primarily determining the potential of competitiveness of the touristic regions. It also notes the significant economic and environmental potential of brownfields, which form a hidden potential development of the regional tourism of Slovakia.
