摘要
A high proportion of patients with breast cancer in the Philippines present at an advanced stage and have a rapid, unfavorable outcome. Providing breast cancer education and early detection to this population is important to help reduce this health disparity. This article describes the impact of a trainthe- trainer program, with mission groups traveling to the Philippines to promote female residents’ breast cancer awareness, knowledge, and intent for future screening. AT A GLANCE Breast cancer poses a significant threat for women in the Philippines, and a lack of information and resources in this vulnerable population contributes to the health disparity. There is a need to increase awareness and education for this vulnerable population, and a train-the-trainer program improved awareness and increased screening practices. Engaging local government, health department, community members, and healthcare providers is important to ensure program sustainability. © 2019, Oncology Nursing Society. All rights reserved.
