Photocatalytic oxidation of methyl orange over mesoporous anatase titania and enhanced activity over additives

摘要
Mesoporous TiO2 was hydrothermally synthesized from tetrabutyl titanium (TBOT) by using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as a template. The prepared samples were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N-2 physical adsorption. The effect of Cu2+ on the photocatalytic activity of mesoporous TiO2 was investigated by oxidation of methyl orange under UV light irradiation as a model reaction. The results show that the synthesized mesoporous TiO2 has an average pore size of 4.4 nm. Photocatalytic activity of mesoporous TiO2 is comparable to that of the commercially available nanosized TiO2 (P25), and the photocatalytic activity of mesoporous TiO2 was enhanced by adding Cu2+. The photocatalytic activity was enhanced with increasing light intensity.
