Introduction: Community Communication, Politics and Citizenship

Communication and community media, subject of this issue of Chasqui, experience a renewed interest today. The current conditions challenge to review both, public policies and community media practices, to keep participation active and social incidence in a context of systemic crisis and in the absence of an ethic of power. Despite their internal circumstances and differences, they are involved in the construction of new narratives for life, from a commitment that responds to the principles of Ethics, Ecology and Equity. 10 Ibero-American experiences about 'other communication' are presented here, and committed with necessary changes in society, communication that has a shared north: that of the rights of the social sectors still excluded, and the consequent struggle for transformation in view of community building.
