摘要
Sugarcane is one of the main rural industries in Australia with a total production around 35 million tons in a season. This industry also has ten million tons of by-product (i.e., bagasse) residue from sugarcane processing which usually uses for cogeneration of the steam and electricity in sugar milling operations. The remaining material from cogeneration of the sugarcane is known as bagasse ash (BA) and usually uses as a fertilizer in agricultural industry. Recently, this by-product has drawn attention of the civil engineering practitioners due to its proper physical and chemical characteristics. In an ideal processing situation, bagasse ash has a high amount of amorphous silicate and a broad specific surface area which makes it an effective pozzolanic additive to improve mechanical performance of the geomaterials. Due to absence of a comprehensive review on effect of sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) as a pozzolanic material, this research aims to have a comprehensive review on previous studies investigated effect of SBA on mechanical characteristics of the geo-materials in construction industry.
