摘要
The use of statistical multiplexing in ATM makes appropriate rate control necessary to maintain the Quality Of Service requirements for a service. Traffic policing mechanisms have been developed for this purpose. This paper is a comprehensive comparison of the existing policing mechanisms by simulation for a highly bursty source model. The results indicate that policing functions which are designed to limit more than one parameter of the input source perform better than policing functions which are designed to limit a single parameter of the source. A combination of policing functions will be needed for better traffic control when each policing function controls only one parameter of the input source.
