Uric acid: Is it a risk factor for cardiovascular disease?

The role of serum uric acid as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease remains controversial. In this editorial, data from 16 large studies involving >100,000 subjects examining the relation between uric acid and cardiovascular disease are critically reviewed.
