摘要
Simon Fraser University is engaged in an active research agenda examining the social, cultural and technical implications inherent in the dissemination of high-definition television (HDTV) in our domestic, commercial and public spaces. The School of Interactive Arts and Technology's HDTV Research Project consists of an interdisciplinary team drawn from separate domains (Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering/Computer Sciences) but united in their common area of study, and their commitment to cross-disciplinary research and discourse. The HDTV Research Project sees the High-Definition Television experience as an inter-related constellation of producer and consumer practices. We treat this phenomenon as a complicated dialectic embedded within a rich context that is predicated on technological developments, modulated by commercial activities and regulatory processes, defined by creative activity, and ultimately determined by domestic consumer practice.
