Like faculty everywhere, Washburn University Faculty are concerned with the ability of their students to communicate what they have learned through their writing. For the past ten years one faculty member of the English Department has been asked to consult with other faculty members on the use of writing in classes. This effort coordinated by Dr. Stewart, led to an informal committee, meeting irregularly throughout the semester, to discuss different writing assignments and the results of the assignments. The goals of the writing assignments include increasing the student's understanding of the subject matter, increasing the student's interest in the material, and improving writing skills.
