摘要
Contamination by toxic dyes such as congo red present in sewage from different industries causes severe damage to the environment. In this work an alternative for the removal of this type of dye was studied, using vegetal extracts of Sechium edule and Cucurbita pepo. Congo red model solutions were used at a concentration of 100 ppm and at pH 4. Electrical conductivity (C.E.), total dissolved solids (SDT), potential oxidation reduction, turbidity, and COD were monitored. A UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used to determine the removal percentage. The results show a removal of congo red of up to 80% by means of extracts from Sechium edule and 90% using Cucurbita pepo in concentrations of up to 100 ppm and in times of up to 15 minutes. The presence of total solids and pH favors the removal of congo red.
