摘要
Since the discovery of the brain receptors for the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters in the mid-sixties, significant progress has been made in the study and discovery of several classes of these receptors; of which the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) is the most extensively studied, The characteristic and neurophysiological role of these receptors NMDA receptors and outline the progress made in this field with reference to possible clinical applications of some modulators of these receptors in the treatment of some forms of epilepsy, Parkinsonism, Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and possibly in other neurological disorders.
