The paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition of Bi4Ti3O12 studied by electron microscopy

摘要
The room temperature structure of the Bi4Ti3O12 Aurivillius phase is studied by high resolution electron microscopy. The paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition is observed in situ by electron diffraction and the high temperature phase is found to be body centered tetragonal, space group I/4mmm. The transition is reversible. An alternative model for the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition is proposed. It relates the ordering of the electric dipoles to lone pairs associated with the Bi3+ ions in the perovskite slab of the structure.
