A closed self-consistent description of a non-equilibrium one-temperature reacting flow is presented on the basis of the kinetic theory methods. Chemical-reaction rates and normal mean stress in viscous compressible flows are studied, and the cross coupling between these terms is found, in particular, the dependence of the reaction rates on the velocity divergence. It is shown that the law mass action is violated in viscous flows. The results obtained in the frame of linear irreversible thermodynamics can be deduced from the proposed general model for a particular case of small affinities of chemical reactions.
