摘要
This experimental study examines the effectiveness of an electromagnetic force used in a new vibration control system that was proposed by the first two authors and their coworkers. In our previous studies we presented a new concept of the control system in which vibrations of a partially magnetized thin alloy beam is suppressed using electromagnetic forces induced by an electric current conducted through the beam. As the partially magnetized beam is technically not available, we perform a model experiment using a thin elastic beam with an electric current being conducted through a thin wire glued on the beam surface and placed in a magnetic field generated by a permanent magnet. One major objective of the present experiment is to examine if an induced electromagnetic force acting on the electric line glued across the breadth of the beam is effective in controlling vibrations of the beam. A numerical analysis of the corresponding control experiment is added for comparison.
