Charles Nodier and the Dictionary of the French Language of Boiste (1834): from lexicographic criticism to editorial practice

This article analyses the correction work carried out by Charles Nodier, one of the most important French lexicographers of the 19th century, as editor of the Dictionnaire universel de la langue francaise (1834) by P. C-V. Boiste, also known as the Pan-Lexique. Based on a selection of entries from Nodier's Examen critique des dictionnaires de la langue francaise (1828), where he critically commented on the different editions of Boiste's dictionary (1800, 1803, 1812 and 1823), we study whether Nodier followed his own recommendations and corrected these entries in his work as editor of the Pan-Lexique (1834).
