Investigation of Radiation Shielding Properties for Some Building Materials Reinforced by Basalt Powder

摘要
The mass attenuation coefficient mu(m) measured experimentally for two different series of concretes (with different grain size and with different basalt ratios) using the narrow beam transmission method. The experimental measurements performed at gamma ray energies 662, 1173 and 1332 keV emitted by gamma ray sources Cs-137 and Co-60 respectively. Moreover, the half value layer of the prepared concretes was calculated. Furthermore, the dependence of the mu(m) on the incident energy and concrete densities were studied. The studied revealed that the basalt grain size and basalt ratio make a significant variation in the mu(m) for the prepared concrete. The mu(m) increases with decrease the grain size while, it is increase with increase the basalt ratio in the prepared concretes.
