Unified interface development: A step towards user interfaces for all

Recent efforts to tackle the problem of accessibility of interactive applications and services have been based on applying adaptations to enable (partial) accessibility by a specific user group. It is argued that in a rapidly changing IT market, any adaptation-oriented perspective does not suffice to facilitate equal access opportunities for all potential user groups. Instead, there is a need for proactive approaches (i.e. preventing problems) adopting a holistic view of the problem of accessibility of computer-based interactive applications and services. This paper provides and overview and presents the main components of a unified interface development platform for constructing accessible and high quality user interfaces.
