CPLEAR experiment at CERN: CP, T, and CPT measurements in the neutral kaon system

Using strangeness tagging at production time, CPLEAR measures time-dependent asymmetries between K-o and (K) over bar(o) decay rates for pionic and semileptonic decays. In the latter, strangeness tagging at decay time with the lepton charge is also performed. A complete set of parameters describing CP, T and CPT violation in neutral kaon mixing and decay can be determined. This includes the first direct experimental observation of time reversal violation. The mass equality of K-o and (K) over bar(o) is tested to the level of 10(-19) GeV. In the framework of quantum mechanics for open systems, CPLEAR results allow physics to be probed on a scale approaching the Planck mass.
