Rehabilitation of the dam sealing on the upper reservoir of the Hohenwarte II pumped-storage power plant

摘要
A scheduled stoppage of the Hohenwarte II pumped-storage power plant (PSPP) in summer 2015 was used to carry out extensive work on the associated dam structures. Three construction measures were essentially performed with the upper reservoir emptied: improving the hydraulics of the upper reservoir's invert near to the intake structure, partial rehabilitation of selected gravity dam sections and their joints, and rehabilitation of the embankment dam's sealing. This article aims to provide a detailed description of the project to rehabilitate the embankment dam's sealing, primarily using a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL).
