Intrinsic and extrinsic attributes for VHDL-based CAD environments

摘要
In our research, we integrate hardware design information that originates from several different sources into a unified database environment. We use our VHDL database for storing design descriptions, and we augment it with an object model for specifying attribute data. As an example, the unified database is used to store (a) VHDL designs, (b) databook information, and (c) backannotation information generated by a CAD tool. Data sharing is addressed since the data in the database is available for use by different CAD tools via the database's query mechanism. Views df design data with different attributes can be used to customize a user's or tool's input/output data needs. In addition, we propose an approach for translating attribute data into VHDL that effectively integrates data from non-VHDL sources into a form that is usable by VHDL-based tools.
