摘要
This paper investigates and analyzes the manufacturing sector in 16 cities of the Yangtze River Delta over the period of 1998 and 2003, explaining the effects of the regional specialization on technology progress and industrial upgrading. It is found that regional specialization could result in the industry from labor-intensive to technology-intensive and even make the technology progress of the industry during that time. Moreover, there has been much more significant technological progress in the industry with regional specialization. Furthermore, regional specialization could increase the competition rather than monopoly of industry.
