Thin film formation of LiCoO2, LiMn2O4, and Li4Ti5O12 for rechargeable lithium batteries

Preparation of Li4/3Ti5/3O4, LiCoO2, and LiMn2O4 thin films was performed by using sol-gel method with poly-vynilpyrrolidone (PVP). All films had no crack. This result indicates that PVP is very useful to prepare thick films of transition metal oxides without a crack formation in thin films. From x-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron micrographs, it can be seen that the films have a spinet structure or a rock salt structure and their thickness is about 0.5 mum. Cyclic voltammetry for these films indicated that three thin films worked as cathode and anode materials for rechargeable lithium batteries.
