Paternalism, cultural practices and representations

This article seeks to examine the cultural practices of crioulo and African Slaves in Rio Grande do Sul, at the end of the 19th century, so as to investigate how masters values would have been appropriated by the slaves. It will explore the interaction between African and local cultures with the White dominant culture, without downplaying the cultural exchanges and transformations resulting from the encounter with other Africans.
