摘要
The plainest things in nature are not its laws but its aberrations. Earth means triumph in every detail, the triumph of purpose over causes. There are many uncertainties behind causes. In this paper in Part A the uncertainties are reduced and reliability is increased by applying Bayesian rules and other statistical methods to consolidation problems. In Part B the effect of coaxial strain (pure shear) and non-coaxial strain (simple shear) on clay and sands are illustrated by numerical models, tables and calculations. Decision are made on the basis of information which is limited or incomplete. It becomes therefore necessary to implement more evidences to increase reliability. A few numerical model calculations and graphical methods are identified to illustrate the improvement in reliability in problems related to consolidation and shear strength of soils. The entire Geomorphological features visible are strains only.
