Risk stratification and resuscitation of patients with upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage are important in the initial management Advanced age, comorbidity and haemodynamic shock are associated with increased mortality Endoscopic haemostasis is associated with reduced rebleeding rates and requirement for surgery.
