Since the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy as standard method in symptomatic cholelithiasis, there is a controversial discussion about the value of intraoperative cholangiography. From our experience with 2,105 patients we demonstrate that by routine intraoperative cholangiography both the rate of unsuspected stones and the rate of common bile duct injuries can be reduced.
