Shaking table testing of a steel frame structure with and without Tuned Mass Control System

摘要
A five story, three bay steel frame model with the total mass of 19.0 t has been tested on biaxial shaking table with TMCS (Tuned Mass Control System) installed on the fifth level. By different methods of testing natural frequencies and viscous damping for the frame model and TMCS were identified. The same model was tested with locked TMCS using the same experimental techniques. Both structures intensively were tested under various earthquake motions. A large number of responses in terms of accelerations, displacements, moment and axial forces were recorded. The experimental results are compared with theoretically predicted ones. In this paper the effectiveness of TMCS has been discussed, and presented in a short form.
