摘要：
Risk analysis and reliability analysis are Flaying an increasingly important role in both the design and the in-service assessment of engineering systems. However. many terms and concepts are nor uniquely defined and it is considered that renewed effort is required to develop robust approaches that can be used with confidence across a wide range of industrial applications. The paper provides a critical review of a number of important concepts and emphasises the need for increased use of reliability updating techniques.
