Negative out-of-plane magnetoresistance of Bi-2(Sr,La)(2)CuO6+delta single crystals

Lorentz-force independent magnetoresistance was observed below 200 K in slightly underdoped Bi-2(Sr,La)(2)CuO6+delta crystals, The positive out-of-plane magnetoresistance at 200 K is decreased as the temperature is lowered and turns to negative at about 50 K. The out-of-plane resistance shows log T dependence in zero magnetic field, and the divergent profile is suppressed in intense magnetic field. These results indicate the responsibility of spin correlation for the c-axis transport and are discussed from a view point of a possible pseudo-spin-gap formation in this one CuO2 layer system.
